Summary

Mendonca & Suarez, LLC is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to maintain and evolve the firm’s data foundation supporting audit, tax, advisory reporting, and internal operations. You will own database reliability, performance, security, and recoverability—enabling timely, decision-ready reporting and strong data governance across the organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on database administration experience in production environments
  • Strong expertise with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server (bonus: Azure SQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, or other managed cloud databases)
  • Demonstrated experience with performance tuning (indexing strategies, query optimization, resource management) and capacity planning
  • Proven ownership of backup/restore processes, retention policies, and disaster recovery testing
  • Working knowledge of database security best practices (least privilege, encryption at rest/in transit, auditing, secrets management)
  • Experience partnering with engineering/analytics teams on schema design, migrations, and data lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling and incident response workflows
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience; relevant certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Administer and optimize databases supporting internal systems, reporting, and automation workflows
  • Implement and continuously improve backup, recovery, retention, and disaster recovery procedures; run periodic restore drills
  • Monitor performance and reliability, proactively identifying bottlenecks and implementing tuning recommendations
  • Harden database security through access controls, auditing, encryption, and configuration standards
  • Partner with stakeholders to design resilient data models that support reporting, compliance, and analytics needs
  • Maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and change management procedures for database environments
  • Support data quality initiatives and governance practices (integrity checks, controlled access, retention policies)
